The OS-8/U miniature oscilloscope is a general-purpose 2MHz ruggedised portable vacuum tube oscilloscope designed for use by the US armed forces, the navy and air force in particular, and was manufactured in the 1950s by the Hickok Electrical Instrument Co. in Cleveland, Ohio. The first generation of the OS-8/U only had eight tubes, whereas subsequent versions (OS-8A/U, OS-8B/U, OS-8C/U) had ten.

My specific unit seems to be a USAF variant from Kelly AFB, Texas.

The Tektronix 453 is a portable 50 MHz dual-trace oscilloscope introduced in 1965 & produced until the mid-1970’s. The market driver for the 453 was IBM, who wanted a portable ‘scope for field engineers for working on mainframe computers – this included a requirement that the scope fit under an airline seat, a reason for its size and front cover.
