The IBM Personal Computer XT (PC/XT), model 5160, is the successor to the original IBM PC, model 5150, which it is very similar to except for the addition of three additional ISA 8-bit expansion slots (for a total of eight), a base RAM of 128KB expandable up to 640KB, a 10MB MFM hard drive with disk controller, and an upgraded 130W internal power supply. Like its predecessor, the 5160 has a 360K 5.25″ floppy disk drive, IBM BASIC in ROM, and a socket for an Intel 8087 arithmetic coprocessor. By 1985, the IBM PC AT made the XT obsolete for most customers.

The IBM 5151 is a 12″ TTL monochrome 720 x 350 50Hz CRT monitor, which shipped with the original IBM PC for use with the IBM Monochrome Display Adapter (MDA) card and other compatible graphics cards. The 5151 uses P39 high-persistence green phosphor, and is unusual in that it does not have an internal horizontal oscillator, instead using the HSYNC input signal directly for horizontal drive.

The IBM PC Convertible (model 5140) was IBM’s first laptop-style computer with onboard batteries, following the luggable IBM Portable, and introduced the 3.5″ FDD format to the IBM product line, having dual 720KB 3.5″ FDDs. It has an 80×25 character 640×200 monochrome CGA-compatible LCD screen, cost US$1,995 at its introduction, and weighs around 5.8 kg.
Mine is dated 19th February 1986, so is likely a very early unit – was also used by Harvard Business School in 1988.

The Gateway GP7 computers were a series of late 90’s and early 00’s Pentium III based computers from the Gateway Corporation, ranging from the GP7-450 to the GP7-850. The GP7-500 has a 500 MHz Slot 1 Pentium III, 128 MB PC-100 SDRAM expandable up to 384 MB, an ATA-33 IDE controller, one AGP x2/x4 slot, five PCI slots (one being shared), one 16-bit ISA slot, an Nvidia TNT2 Pro 16 MB GPU, a Creative Audio PCI sound card, three 5.25″ bays and two x 3.5″ bays, two serial ports, a parallel port, two USB 1.0 ports, and PS/2 ports for keyboard and mouse.

The Gateway EV700 is an entry-level 17″ 4:3 CRT PC monitor from the late 90’s and early 00’s the Gateway Corporation, with a VGA input designed for resolutions from 640×480 to 1024×768.

The Compaq Portable III (Model 2660) is a PC/AT-compatible portable computer from the Compaq Computer Corporation, and was advertised as being much smaller and lighter than the previous portable x86-PCs – however it was still quite large by today’s standards. Three models were announced at release: the Model 1 (US$3999) was equipped with a 12 MHz Intel 80286, 640 KB RAM, 1.2 MB 5.25″ FDD, and a 10″ amber gas-plasma display; the Model 20 (US$4999) with a 20 MB HDD; and the Model 40 (US$5799) with a 40 MB HDD.

The Olivetti M15 is Olivetti’s first laptop computer from 1987, a clone of the IBM PC XT featuring an Intel 80C88, 512KB RAM, a removable keyboard, a NiCd battery pack, two 3.5″ 720KB FDDs, and a 640×480 green screen with no backlight.

This notebook was made by Compal of Taiwan (model BC380/BC380A/BC380B/BC390) from 1991 to 1993, and was sold by Tandon, Compudyne, and PC Brand. It features a Cirrus Logic CL-GD610/620 GPU, 8.4″ FSTN 640×480 greyscale display, 60MB 2.5″ IDE HDD, 3.5″ FDD, 16-bit ISA bus, and a 4.8V 5000mAh battery.
